"Vangelis as usual is not enthusiastic to play concertsof course not because of peoplebut for the tons of technicalfinancial problems and for the lack of spontaneity that these events can produce on his inspiration.Howeveras mr.Papathanassiou says "Concerts are similar to a love affair"and this recording shows a distant glimpse of what is like to be at a Vangelis concert;sadly this is only an amateur recording taken from the audienceand whoever tried to lower the noise of the tapes has drastically cut off a lot of the frequency spectrum.Anyway I would kiss him for keeping a memory of this magical concert:100+ minutes of improvisation! The music springs out from the brain to the fingers and the loyal Yamaha CS80s translate the energy into audible vibrations:Vangelis starts with a romantic piece at pianoslowly changing the mood with the entrance of low synth notesthen beginning a dialogue between piano and a sequence who rightfully Dennis Loodewiks feels similar to the one we can hear on "I hear you now".The second track has something of the first and has a more "decadent"moodending with a whirling sequence;with track3 the atmosphere turns in a more cupe mood with abstract noises and "falling"notes produced with an intense work on the ringmodultator ;track 4 developes from a poetic intro in a "chinese"stylegrowing on and on including the riff of "Pulstar"then ending as it beginned with delicate sounds. The second part shows another piece of oriental flavourwith a solo who simulates a shakuaki;the fifth track shows Vangelis virtuosism :it's my favouritehe plays lute with the synth!then as the previous evolving it into a blues (!)played with sounds that lots have to share with oriental/arabian culture(!!).The show ends with a tryumphal marchwith leading tympans and a boombastic finale with the full synthorchestra playing. I can't say anything else but bravo!"

"There are many artists who like to give their live performancesimprovisational twists to avoid re-hashing their recorded music. Vangelis? London performance in 1979 as heard on this release isexclusively improvisational if not all experimental. Around thistime Vangelis was working his dynamic and melodic "Opera Sauvage" and"China" albums. However none of the haunting music from these worksis performed in this concert. Some tracks are more experimental thanothers while a few others are quite melodic and introspective. This concert is the mirror image to Vangelis? 1986 performance in LosAngeles. There he played some of his most signature themes and did sobeautifully making them all different in some way from their recordedversions. In London 1979 Vangelis appears to be "playing" with hissynthesizers sometimes coming up with interesting moments whilemostly the music sounds like its building up to something concrete butends up drifting with no direction. Memoires vol3 is thereforelacking Vangelis? momentous instances of pure melodic and dramaticbliss that is central to his music."
