"For some reason I waited a long while before pursuing these discs. However having acquired them recently and assuming that these releasescame out before the OWM series I must conclude that Euterpe vols. I andII are one of the most comprehensive‚ ground-breaking and influentialVangelis rarities out there. Although the sound quality is poor insome areas‚ the discs are very comprehensive in terms of Vangelis'prolific film scoring.
The tracks are divided in sub-groups of the various films that Vangelishas scored. This gives the release a very snug and coherent sound. Ondisc one‚ the Prologue and Main Titles from Blade Runner areinteresting because they are taken directly from the film soundtrackand have no additional sound effects (ie layered spinner sound effects)as heard on BR the Deck Music release. While the OWM version ofSauvage et Beau suffers from too many tracks featuring narration‚ theSauvage et Beau tracks on Euterpe II are very well blended and presentthe music in a more coherent and effective manner than the afforementioned release. Another example of this is the "Ace Up My Sleeve"excerpts.Euterpe II contains the brief musically relevant piecesfrom the film and doesn't attempt to give us "too much uselessinformation" as happens with the "Crime and Passion" bootleg.
As mentioned before‚ I assume that these Euterpe discs were releasedbefore the OWM series. If this is true‚ it's obvious that OWM borroweda lot from these discs. A very original idea and nicely done. Insum‚ Euterpe vol. I and II stand as a potent and musically coherenteffort in presenting unreleased Vangelis film music."
