"Vangelis‚ to me‚ does his best concert work when he has a healthymixture of improvised material and recognizable themes. One problem Ihave with his earlier "Live in London" and "Live in Paris" performanceswas his overwhelming tendency for improvisation. These examples haveinstances of genius‚ but they are mostly a rabble of insipid cues whereVangelis seems to be building up to something without ever gettingthere.
Well‚ this is not the case with this release. This concert is awonderful and beautiful melange of Vangelis improvisation around hissignature themes. Most notable for me‚ is his stunning version ofBlade Runner's "Love Theme"‚ a cue he either usually ignores in concertor plays briefly‚ as almost an afterthought (Live in L.A). Hissnippets of "Memories of Green‚" are also great. (For more informationon the background musical content of the concert‚ visit Dennis'"Elsewhere" site).
In any case‚ this is by far my favorite live Vangelis bootleg for theafore mentioned reasons. The sound is also surprisingly decent. Mybiggest complaint is putting the entire double cd release as twotracks. It's very frustrating to search for a specific track. In anycase‚ this release is an essential item in any Vangelis collector'srepertoire."
