"Like one reviewer points out regarding in the "Morandi" OWM release‚"Picasso" is much more of a proper album than many of the other OWMreleases. There is no dialogue and no looping of themes to make themlonger. The music was composed in 1982‚ and therefore is veryreminiscent of some of the sounds in "Blade Runner"(tracks 1 and 17)and even "The Bounty.(tracks 2‚13 and 11)" Many themes are delicate‚and melodious while others are very abstract and almost violent. Vangelis himself has said that music for scores should be heard withinthe context of the images. However‚ while for some releases I agreewith him‚ (such as "De Nuremberg a Nuremberg‚") "Picasso" stands verywell on its own and has some truly wonderful Vangelis moments. "

"Where lays the frontier between noise and music? That's the question thatcomes to mind while listening to this release. It has lots of similariteswith "Beauborg"‚ wich of course it's not good news‚ but I must say thatthis one is more listenable. While "Beauborg" is just 38 minutes ofconstant excentricity‚ "Picasso" gives some rest to the listener insertingsome peacefull and beautiful pieces. My favourites are the romantic pianoin "Se Nourrir d'Id?es" and the beautiful "La Montagne". It's not that themore abstract pieces are not interesting as well‚ "20?me Si?cle" has lotsof wonderful changes‚ and the most part of the tracks insert some melodiesbetween all that machinery‚ as in track 1‚ where you can easily tell thephrase from Jon & Vangelis' "Horizon".

It's not specially brilliant‚ but it's very interesting and quite wellproduced to be OWM‚ at least it has almost no looping and no irritatingfalse stereo. Now that I think of it‚ it's strange and abstract‚ but withsome moments of beauty‚ and that's exactly what the work of Picasso is forme... That's what I call a good score !"
